Computing & Online Safety
Curriculum Intent
At Harcourt Primary School, our Computing curriculum empowers students with the knowledge, skills and resilience they need to succeed in a rapidly evolving digital world. Computing is a fundamental part of learning from Reception through to Year 6, delivered through a carefully sequenced spiral curriculum that builds on skills and deepens both substantive and disciplinary knowledge year on year to ensure clear progression. We provide a broad and balanced offer to all children, delivering a wide range of opportunities that cover the three key aspects of the Computing curriculum. Online safety underpins all of our Computing teaching. Through the dedicated 2BeSafe programme, we ensure all pupils understand how to be confident, respectful, and responsible digital citizens. Retrieval practice is used to reinforce learning and secure long-term understanding. We place a strong emphasis on ensuring that key computational vocabulary is well embedded, enabling pupils to articulate their understanding with accuracy and confidence. We strive to be forward-thinking and innovative, ensuring pupils experience real-life, meaningful computing contexts that allow them to apply their learning creatively while developing essential problem-solving and resilience skills. Our curriculum prepares students for their digital futures, equipping them to thrive in an ever-evolving technological landscape.
