Physical Education

Curriculum Intent

At our school, Physical Education (PE) plays a vital role in nurturing the holistic development of every child by supporting their physical, social, and emotional well-being. Our inclusive and aspirational curriculum is thoughtfully designed so that all pupils—including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)—can fully engage, achieve success, and flourish.

Lessons are carefully structured to build on each child's prior knowledge and abilities, gradually developing their physical competencies, self-confidence, and resilience. We use a spiral curriculum to revisit and deepen key skills and concepts over time, while regular retrieval activities support long-term retention and application of learning.

Beyond the classroom, PE offers enriching experiences that extend learning and open up wider opportunities. Pupils develop essential life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and perseverance through a diverse range of sports, outdoor challenges, and collaborations with local organisations. Our curriculum also celebrates the unique heritage of Folkestone, promoting healthy, active living and strengthening ties within the community. Ultimately, we aim to instil a lifelong passion for physical activity, equipping children with the confidence and habits to lead active, healthy lives well beyond their primary years.
